Round the island sailors choose Chatham

Chatham Marine has supported young student members of the British Keelboat Squad in this year's round the Island Race. The crew put together by Leeds District Judge, Robert Jordan, included Robert's daughter Catherine, now 20, who as a 16 year old was the youngest qualified 'Day Skipper' in the UK, and her friend James Brown. Both are student members of The British Keelboat Association Squad, which is run by the UKSA and the RYA.

The crew of twelve wore a sailing kit, provided free to the student members, including boat shoes, shirts and shorts supplied by Chatham Marine Clothing. Chatham Marketing Director Philip Marsh says, "We were delighted to supply the kit, the Team have really done us proud. Chatham's roots are in the marine world and we like to support fellow sailors when we can".

Crew of the Flair IVCatherine, a medical student at Southampton University says, "Chatham's kit has served us very well and makes us look more professional. The boat shoes especially are really hardwearing and have a great grip on board.

Amongst other members of the crew were Robert's brother Peter, a London based solicitor, his 17 year old son David and fellow Leeds District Judge, Andrew Saffman.

The boat, 'Flair IV' an Elan 401, was pushing hard for a credible top five class finish until a catastrophic tear in the headsail within sight of the line dropped the team back to fifteenth place.
